Shaila Afroj Ph.D
Consultant - Textile and Chemicals
Dr. Shaila Afroj is an experienced graphene scientist and expert in textile technology with more than 10 years of industry and academic experiences in graphene science, textile related technology and business, and a passion for getting research out of the lab and into real world applications. Along with Consultant for RCB, She is also currently CEO, co-founder and Director of GraphCase, a Manchester-based start-up company aiming to develop 100% environmentally friendly products made of graphene-enhanced recycled plastics.
Dr. Afroj completed her PhD from the University of Manchester on “Graphene-based next generation functional and wearable textiles” under supervision of Nobel Prize winning Professor Sir Kostya S Novoselov. During her PhD and job at the National Graphene Institute of the University of Manchester, Dr Afroj has developed highly scalable methods to manufacture electrically on conductive graphene–based wearable e-textiles that could potentially produce 150 meter conductive fabrics in one minute and ~1000 kg conductive textile yarns in an hour. Both methods were published in ACS Nano and received huge commercial and media interests from the industry and Media, including in Phys.org, Chemical & Engineering News, Market Business News etc.
Dr. Afroj is also passionate about novel technologies and materials that would enable manufacturing of 100% environmentally friendly smart, strong and sustainable products.
